La Vista Rescue Center ~ May 29

Our trip to La Vista was incredible! ES Animarvelous, MS and HS students, parents and teachers arrived at the La Vista Center in Laguna just after 9am on Saturday. We were instantly attracted to the bearcats and surrounded them with our wonder and cameras. After touring the grounds, Dr Donato arrived with the rest of the My Zoo Volunteers. We were grouped into 3 teams to 1) clear the future bearcat enclosure 2) cut fruits and vegetables to feed the monkeys, birds, turtles and bearcats 3) do landscaping and cleaning.

We were so overwhelmed by the presence of all the animals that it was hard to concentrate on our “jobs”, but we tried our best. Two pet cockatoos were visiting the center with their owner. Many of us took turns to carry them around on our arms and heads. We also became good friends with a pet gibbon. He generously allowed us to play with him, hug him and feed him. Some of us also walked around with a baby African python (not poisonous).

We ended our wonderful day at the center with joining Teresa’s birthday party (7 years old) who visited the center with her family. The bearcat enclosure is now 50% done and soon the caged bearcats will be moved to the enclosure where they will have more space with their families.

It was a perfect way to end the school year. See our photos.

Thanks to everyone!

ES Animarvelous, MS and HS students will assist in building a bearcat enclosure for 15 bearcats in Laguna this May.

Yesterday, we had a quick “sweets and treats” sale to raise more money for this project. We made 3 000 pesos for the bearcats in only 45 minutes!

PAWS Shelter Trip ~ March 20

May 13th, 2010 Ms. Diaz No comments

ES Animarvelous joined Middle School on a 2nd trip to the PARC Shelter on March 20. On this day we gave Ms. Cabrera (PAWS Director) our donations and funds from our bake sale.

Everyday, the PARC Staff takes good care of all the dogs and cats. They feed them and clean up after them. To them we gave a GRATITUDE MOBILE to hang in the office with thank you messages for everything they do.

First, Ms. Cabrera showed and told us about the newly admitted shelter dogs and cats. We spent the rest of our short morning walking the dogs and “socializing” with the cats in the cattery.  We also made lots of cat toys.

Thanks to the PARC Staff that always welcome our visits.  Here are some photos from the day. ENJOY!

ANIMARVELOUS SALE

Bake Sale ~ March 4

Bake Sale ~ March 4

A big thank you to everyone who supported our bake sale last Thursday, March 4. We raised 7800 pesos! At 4pm our table was left with almost nothing. Animarvelous students will decide whether they will use the money to support the PARC Shelter and / or the La Vista Rescue Center to build an enclosure for the bearcats.

We had some questions posted during our bake sale. Naturally, the cookies and cupcakes drew more attention than our questions. Please answer some of them and leave a reason for your answer by commenting to this post. Sharing your thoughts sparks a lot of conversation in our group!

Thanks for all your support!

Shelter Reflections

Describe your experience with a cat or dog during our shelter visit.

Seo~Young Oh

At the shelter I met a cat that climed over me and it hurt. I also walked a dog that escaped from his collar and almost went into a ‘no dogs allowed’ zone. I saw a really cute cat that was playing with a toy that one of us made. Overall it was a really awesome trip!

Our PARC Shelter Visit

January 17th, 2010 Ms. Diaz No comments

Saturday, January 16 was a very special day for Animarvelous students. For the first time, ES students joined MS students on a trip to the PARC Shelter. For many of us, this was our first trip to an animal shelter.

We started with touring the shelter grounds. Some animals were newly rescued and we passed them in the quarantine areas. So many cats and dogs are available for adoption and they are eagerly waiting in the cattery and dog runs for a loving home.

We filled these exciting hours with walking dogs (or should we rather say, they walked us), playing with cats and making cat toys. We were a great team. We helped each other interacting with the animals and for some us it was a day of “firsts”. The following question came up a few times ~ “Are animals the same as people?” What a great question, with so many answers.

We are all eager to visit the shelter again. If you would like to visit the shelter and meet the cats and dogs who need a home, then please visit the PAWS site at http://paws.org.ph

We gave the PARC office one of our Animarvelous Responsible Pet Ownership Posters. Thanks to the PARC Staff, Ms. Pavic and all the students for making this trip a great success.

Enjoy our photos!

Ms. Cabrera visits Animarvelous

On September 17, Ms Cabrera, Program Director for the Philippine Animal Welfare Society visited Animarverlous at ISM. Ms Cabrera gave the kids some tips on being safe around dogs. Many kids have their own dogs or they might visit a friend with a dog. This was followed with a beautiful slideshow on wild animals that triggered many questions and thoughts on animals’ feelings and their circumstances. Ms Cabrera ended with a DVD that explained the purpose and work of the PAWS Animal Shelter.

Thanks for visiting us Ms. Cabrera ~ your shelter’s work truly inspire us!
